It would seem that there is no end to the good news for Nintendo and its popular Switch Console.

Not only is the console selling well compared to Nintendo's other devices, but it is also selling well against Microsoft and Sony's efforts too. Exactly how well is the Switch doing, though?

Amidst all the noise surrounding Microsoft's Xbox Series consoles and the release of the PlayStation 5, Nintendo has calmly announced some news of its own.

We have already seen how well the Switch has been selling, making it more successful than the NES. And this despite the Switch only having been released in 2017, with the Switch Lite joining the fray in 2019.

Following on from this news, it transpires that the Nintendo Switch is also the bestselling console of 2020. In fact the Switch has topped the charts for the past 23 months in a row, beating the PS4 and Xbox One into the ground.

In a press release, Nintendo reported that, for almost two years, the Switch has been outstripping the Xbox One (in its many permutations) and the PlayStation 4. And compared to October 2019, the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite enjoyed a huge 136 percent growth in terms of sales.

The Second-Highest October Sales in History

This growth means that the Switch and Switch Lite racked up the second-highest October sales figures of all time for a games console. The only device to sell more in the same month was the Nintendo Wii.

Obviously, this is brilliant news for Nintendo. However, no other consoles have come close to challenging the devices in the 22 months prior, either. As it stands, the consoles have now sold in excess of 63 million units globally.

The appropriately-named Nintendo of America President, Doug Bowser, is suitably pleased with these figures, stating:

Seeing encouraging sales growth like this in the fourth October of Nintendo Switch proves to us that the system has many more years and great games yet to come.

Bowser goes on to discuss what he sees as the Switch's key to success, saying, "Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite continue to provide one-of-a-kind gaming experiences on the TV or on the go, allowing holiday shoppers the choice of a video game system that matches their lifestyle."

Will the PS5 and Xbox Series X Beat the Switch?

Now that both of the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft have been released in the United States, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Switch.

Microsoft claims the Xbox Series X enjoyed the most successful launch of any of its consoles to date. And Sony is sure to claim something similar with the PS5. However, right now, Nintendo remains on top. And comfortably so.
