Netflix and Disney+ are two of the most popular streaming services available, and both platforms offer an impressive selection of movies and television shows.

To figure out who wins the Netflix vs. Disney+ battle, we'll compare the two on price, user interface, content, and special features to determine which offers the best value for your money.

Netflix Overview: What to Expect?

Netflix is the streaming giant that spent years at the top, overlooking the other players far into the distance. It has a simple user interface that focuses on your entertainment preferences. Netflix recommends content based on your watch history.

Netflix's main page has categories like #1 in Your Country, Trending Now, Watch Again, and Hidden Gems For You. It also provides lists of shows and movies based on their genre, so you can quickly pick something new to watch. You'll be happy to know there's a massive selection of genres and a good collection of documentaries.

The service also comes with a dedicated kids profile, ensuring that children aren't privy to the adult content. You can choose the content maturity rating when editing their profile, going for content that even the youngest kids are allowed to watch for up to 7+ years. If you hate specific shows, you can also ensure your kids won't have access to those titles by adding them to a blacklist.

The streaming platform also allows you to create your own list of TV shows and movies you want to watch later. Overall, there are many television shows and movies to choose from.

How Much Is Netflix Per Month?

First, you should know that Netflix no longer offers a free trial. Also in the realm of "bad news" is the fact that Netflix is known for hiking up the subscription price.

Netflix offers three subscription packages to choose from:

  1. Basic (US$9.99/month, plus applicable taxes): This package includes the ability to watch Netflix on one device at a time, the option to download content to one device, and unlimited viewing of TV shows and movies.
  2. Standard (US$15.49/month, plus applicable taxes): This package includes the ability to watch Netflix on two devices at a time, the option to download content to two devices, unlimited access to all of Netflix's TV shows and movies, and the option for high-definition viewing.
  3. Premium (US$19.99/month, plus applicable taxes): This package includes the ability to watch Netflix on four devices at a time, the option to download content to four devices, unlimited access to all of Netflix's TV shows and movies, and high-definition and Ultra HD viewing.

The Netflix User Interface

Netflix main page

When you launch the Netflix app, the platform immediately suggests a title it thinks you will enjoy, based on your past viewing choices.

As you hover your mouse over a television show or movie, it will play a preview of the content, giving you some idea as to what it's all about so you can ascertain whether it's something you'd be interested in or not. When you hover over a TV show or movie, you can play it, add it to your watch list, and tell Netflix you like or dislike it. In fact, you can even tell Netflix if you absolutely love some show by clicking the doubles thumbs up button, so the platform will prioritize it over titles you've only liked.

If you click on a show or movie, Netflix displays the preview, the time length, a summary of the plot line, the genre, the main cast list, and recommendations for movies or TV shows similar to the one you are previewing. The preview screen gives you all the information you need to decide whether you want to watch a program.

The account section is easily accessed on your computer by clicking or hovering over your profile in the top-right corner of your screen and selecting Account. This is where you will find your payment information, plan details, settings, and parental controls.

The platform is so easy to use people who aren't tech-savvy can navigate it without a problem.

What to Watch on Netflix

Netflix has an impressive catalog size, with close to 6,000 titles across its US library. The number varies depending on the country, with Slovakia, for instance, featuring over 7.000 shows and movies.

It offers numerous television shows and movie genres, including Anime, Comedy, Crime Dramas, Horror, and Thrillers.

You can easily view the titles available in any of these genres in Netflix's computer application by clicking TV Shows or Movies and then clicking the drop-down menu to select the genre of your choice. You can even use secret codes to find specific content you're interested in.

During the holidays, like Halloween and Christmas, Netflix will display content to help you get in the spirit. On the other hand, Netflix has been hemorrhaging content as major content creators are launching their own streaming services and pushing content to them. From CBS to NBC and the companies behind them, we've seen content being removed from Netflix and sent to Paramount+ or Peacock.

While some content remains, Netflix gets its hands on a few blockbusters or TV shows. Instead, the company has been investing heavily in original shows, movies, and documentaries. Some content is truly high quality and has brought the company recognition at award shows, but the biggest chunk is sub-par.

That being said, every user in your household can create a profile on Netflix, watching whatever it is they love most. Netflix will recommend content based on what each individual chooses to watch. If you have children or love kids' shows and movies, there is a pre-made profile called "Kids" with all the kid-friendly titles that Netflix offers.

What Does Disney+ Offer?

Screenshot of Disney+

Disney+ is Disney's streaming platform. It offers access to content from various Disney-owned franchises, including Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. Disney+ also has TV shows and movies like The Simpsons and more from its acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Disney+ has categories like Hit Movies, Trending, Originals, and Collections. It also recommends programming to you based on your watch history. Each profile can have its content rating adjusted, except the kids profile.

The platform has a wide selection of movies and television shows broken up into different genres. Like its competitor Netflix, you can add television shows and movies to a watchlist for future viewing. Disney+ is a fearless adversary to Netflix, but how does it measure up?

How Much Is Disney+?

Like Netflix, Disney+ doesn't offer free trials, but you can cancel your subscription at any time. There are two subscription packages available for Disney+ members to choose from:

  1. Disney+ Monthly: Unlimited access to all Disney+ content for US$7.99/month plus applicable taxes.
  2. Disney+ Yearly: Unlimited access to all Disney+ content for US$79.99/year plus applicable taxes, which saves you approximately $16/year.

Regardless of how you want to pay for Disney+, you'll get access to the same perks, including the ability to watch content on up to four devices simultaneously.

The Disney+ User Interface

Compared to Netflix, Disney+ has a more static interface in the sense that when you hover your mouse over TV shows or movies, you don't get to see previews. Instead, you can watch the full trailer once you select the title you want to check out.

It does have options like extras, related shows, and details in separate categories, but the cast list and summary are not visible on the main page of the selected title but rather from the Details tab.

The Disney+ account settings page can be found by clicking on the icon beside the word Profile and selecting Account. Here, you will find your account details like username and password, billing history, and subscription details.

What's on Disney+?

Disney+ has an impressive catalog with over 12,000 movies and 16,000 episodes from various shows on its channels. Of course, there are also loads of original shows and movies worth seeing.

You can select the Series or Movie options at the top of your screen to browse the different genres. Disney+ has a few television shows and movie genres, including Action/Adventure, Animation, Comedy, and Drama. If you want original Disney+ content, there's a special option in the top ribbon, making it easy to access.

Like Netflix, Disney+ has a holiday section that includes many of your Disney holiday favorites like The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

All in all, Disney+ has a lot of great titles you'll want to watch and some you'll want to watch again.

Disney+ vs. Netflix: The Winner

After weighing everything up, we think Disney+ offers the best value for money. Netflix is getting more expensive, and it seems to be going for quantity rather than quality regarding the content it produces.

Disney+, on the other hand, has a history of creating blockbusters that you can see on the platform. Moveover, Disney+ is far more affordable than Netflix, offering more perks for a low price.
